Ezra Miller Rumored To Be "Done" With THE FLASH Role Ezra Miller Rumored To Be "Done" With THE FLASH Role

Earlier in the year, The Flash star Ezra Miller was reported to have had a meeting with Warner Bros. to apologize about their controversies, but a new rumor suggests the actor is done with Barry Allen.

Warner Bros. faced significant challenges with the long-in-development The Flash following various allegations against its star, Ezra Miller, who uses they/them pronouns. Reports about the actor's alleged behavior put a big question mark over The Flash, especially as WB reportedly considered different options for the movie, including putting it out on HBO Max. Regardless, it seemed the studio was done with the actor, as Deadline stated Warner Bros. would likely not keep Miller for future DCEU projects.

However, in August of 2022, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Miller had attended a meeting with CEOs of Warner Bros. Pictures Group Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy to apologize for the negative attention their behavior had brought to The Flash. At first glance, the meeting seemed to point at the possibility of Miller remaining in the DCEU following The Flash's release after all.

Now, there seems to be another development in the story, as a rumor states that the actor is indeed done with the Scarlet Speedster. Insider MyTimeToShineHello posted on Twitter: "Not sure if good news or bad news; that's up to you, but I hear Ezra Miller is done as The Flash no matter what happens. Not coming back."

As per usual with rumors, it's important to take this information with a grain of salt. After all, it's possible that nothing will be officially said about Ezra Miller's involvement with DC until after The Flash comes out. Per Deadline, Warner Bros. hoped Miller's controversies would die down by the time of the movie's release.

The studio publicly disassociating itself from the star of one of its most anticipated blockbusters prior to its release would likely bring more unwanted attention to the already troubled project. As such, official information about the actor's status will probably not be provided until after The Flash hits theaters.

Is The Flash Still Relevant For The DCEU's Future?

The Flash seems to be a pivotal project in the DCEU's overarching plan given its focus on the multiverse, the introduction of Sasha Calle's Supergirl, and the fact that it features Michael Keaton's big screen return as Bruce Wayne since 1992's Batman Returns. However, recent developments for DC adaptations related to The Flash could make it seem as if the film's impact on the franchise has diminished—to a certain extent, at least. Batgirl, for example, which was expected to include Keaton's Batman after his appearance in Barry Allen's standalone film, was canceled earlier in 2022

Furthermore, in July of 2022, Ben Affleck was revealed to be returning as Bruce Wayne for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Keaton had a scene in the film as Bruce Wayne, but test audiences were confused by his appearance. For context, The Flash was initially slated to come out in November 2022, while Aquaman 2 was given a December 2022 date, meaning the sequel was meant to take place after the events of Barry Allen's film, explaining Keaton's inclusion in Aquaman 2. That changed in March 2022, when the Aquaman sequel was moved to March 2023 and The Flash to June 2023.

Arthur Curry's second film is now once again expected to come out after The Flash, in December 2023. As THR suggested, the test audiences' confusion resulting from that shift could indicate that Affleck was brought in to replace Keaton, which in turn may hint at the possibility of the Batman Returns actor not having the Nick Fury-type role in the DCEU he was reportedly expected to have.

That possibility was seemingly supported by insider KC Walsh, who stated: "Looks like they are replacing the Keaton scenes with Affleck. Remember 'Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom' was originally supposed to come out after 'The Flash,' and [test] audiences were confused by his inclusion."

Of course, that's not to say the aforementioned events have anything to do with Miller's controversies. After all, Batgirl's cancelation and Ben Affleck's Batman reshoots seem to be the result of other factors outside of the scope of the actor's troubles, such as WB's recent cost-cutting measures, and the rescheduling of some DC Films

With that said, this is speculation. Ultimately, audiences will get a clearer idea of the future of The Flash and its impact on the DCEU once the film is actually released.

Miller, for their part, released a statement through their representative in August of 2022, apologizing for their behavior:

"Having recently gone through a time of intense crisis, I now understand that I am suffering complex mental health issues and have begun ongoing treatment. I want to apologize to everyone that I have alarmed and upset with my past behavior. I am committed to doing the necessary work to get back to a healthy, safe and productive stage in my life."

The Flash is slated to come out in theaters on June 23, 2023.

Good riddance. We don't need groomers playing superheroes.
thekabsin - 9/16/2022, 8:43 AM
@luckypenny - he’d take good care of you. Shouldn’t believe everything you read. He’s a whack job but he is/was genuinely helping that girl and getting her away from her family that was exploiting her. Really it’s none of our business and I don’t see him being charged with anything. Miscast from the beginning anyways. Company shouldn’t have tried to be Marvel, even Marvels not doing so great being Marvel now.
TheComedian67 - 9/16/2022, 8:58 AM
@thekabsin -

How do you know? You tell us not to believe everything we read, but we should believe what you say though.

I'm just not sure what makes your information more reliable than any one else's.
SpideyQuad - 9/16/2022, 10:08 AM
@luckypenny - you took the words right out of my mouth
SpideyQuad - 9/16/2022, 10:12 AM
@thekabsin - "even Marvels not doing so great being Marvel now." That's because Marvel grew too large. They could use a few "mini me's" of Kevin Feige. We may be finding out in a few years how hard that guy will be to replace, if at all
bs77 - 9/16/2022, 11:16 AM
@thekabsin - The police bodycam from Hawaii pretty confirmed that Miller is unstable and all these rumors are more likely to be true than not. He's incapable of making good decisions for himself let alone others. Even if he wasn't a wacko, he was always the wrong choice for The Flash.
GreekGeek - 9/16/2022, 4:21 AM
Wait... I thought this was obvious. No studio in their right mind would want anything more to do with this ticking time bomb.
TheWalkingCuban - 9/16/2022, 4:41 AM
@GreekGeek - I hate to say it but his orientation is protecting him. I repeat. His orientation is protecting him. He would’ve been Kevin spacey-ed a while ago by now if he just now started saying he was gay. Nah he been said it. And he had carte Blanche for a good minute, to the point that WB may even accept his apology and not throw away a movie way more expensive than Batgirl. Disgusting. Bryan Singer is rolling in his Scrooge Vault.
Origame - 9/16/2022, 4:44 AM
@GreekGeek - there are people here who legit believe wb is considering working with him on upcoming projects, as opposed to just placating him to salvage a film they already dumped so much money into.

It's stupid, but that's what some people actually believe.
DenvertheDino - 9/16/2022, 7:13 AM
@TheWalkingCuban - If he claims that he's gay, he'll get a lot more roles. Especially if he also claims that he's not male or female, or if he claims that he's part cat.
thewanderer - 9/16/2022, 7:19 AM
@GreekGeek - yea this has been obvious for months. Ezra's career as a whole may be on hold for awhile.
TheWalkingCuban - 9/16/2022, 7:28 AM
@DenvertheDino - you know what man it’s about time bearded dragons had a voice. Who’s with me? Say “khrkhrkhr”!
mountainman - 9/16/2022, 7:48 AM
@TheWalkingCuban - One thing to note - it seems as if women are the only people negatively impacted by this. A trans women plays womens sports and dominates. No stories of trans men dominating mens sports. Stories of women in prison getting taped by a trans woman. No stories of trans men raping men in male prison - if it is happening it’s no worse than the rape men already experience in their prison and the victim cannot become pregnant. Stories about locker rooms, spas and other similar spaces that used to be areas free of male genitalia that no longer are. A lady got in trouble in LA for complaining that in the womens spa area there was someone waking around with their male genitalia out. You don’t hear the same complaints in mens locker rooms and spas. This whole movement only hurts biological women, not men. It boggles my mind that so many feminists are ok with this. Not all mind you, but then they are called TERFs. A lot of us that have concerns about this situations are called transphobes, which is weird because most people are ok with adults living their lives how they please, but we have concerns about very specific situations. I can’t speak for everyone, only myself, but I believe an adult should be able to do whatever they please as long as they don’t hurt others. The only transgender issues I take issues with are when trans women compete in womens sports, go into women only spaces (jails, locker rooms, spas, etc) and any hormones or surgeries being given to minors. In fact, let’s just leave kids out of these permant life altering decisions like we have always done in many other areas. Other than that, do what you want. I agree that they/them is odd, but I’ve used it when in an environment with someone I respect - like work. I absolutely refuse to use any of the made up neo pronouns though. That has gone way off the crazy cliff.
TheWalkingCuban - 9/16/2022, 8:13 AM
@mountainman - Starting with the last part first, grammatically, I might use it just to assuage whoever it is, But as an x-ray tech asking women when their last menstrual cycle was, I’d like a straight answer, no pun Nintendoed. So if they can set that aside for medical purposes, but then go back to it, isn’t it now a pretense? A delusion? And they know that therefore they do not Admit anything and they make our jobs harder and their health harder to treat. So I at least add that to your list you mentioned. It’s their house but doggone it I’m not in the medical field for people just to refuse care, like the guy with a brain bleed the other night that didn’t want anything invasive, at least he took the x-ray and the CT, but dang man, you can die! Schizophrenia. At least by my estimation, and I have had many patients in mental facilities that get scary out of nowhere. I saw that. So what I’m getting at there is if you are refusing medical care, you have mental issues. If you want set aside your belief of what you are to save your life or at least be healthier, you’re delusional.

TERF. Women had to go through all those periods, Have all those babies, raise all those kids, just to not be able to define what a woman is. The pregnant woman in prison thing, impregnated by trans. really gets on my nerves. Was it the HAGUE or the Geneva convention that outlawed opposite sex in jail together? And we thought they were bending the law for Ezra! What do you think about the HAGUE, California?
TheSuperMex - 9/16/2022, 9:25 AM
@TheWalkingCuban - the only thing protect him is that he is the main actor in the movie. If the flash movie never filmed he would have been cut already. He is only other film was filed before all this shit about him came up. What other movies will he be in? None.
TheSuperMex - 9/16/2022, 9:26 AM
@Origame - WB probably will have a new actor replace Miller at the end of the movie.
Origame - 9/16/2022, 9:31 AM
@TheSuperMex - oh yeah no doubt. Now that they've canceled all the flash spin off projects and brought back Affleck for aquaman instead of sticking with the Keaton plan, I'd imagine this would just end as an excuse to recast the flash. They definitely don't want this as the defining movie of their new version of the dceu.
TheWalkingCuban - 9/16/2022, 9:45 AM
@TheSuperMex - Not here to argue the point. I’m sure the completed movie community is up in arms, but it’s that other community he’s a part of that I think has more sway…
TheSuperMex - 9/16/2022, 9:52 AM
@Origame - I hope the movie is good and does well for the sake of Flash’s own character. Green Lantern is generally looked at as a bad movie and it tarnished GL name and now we don’t even have a new project anytime soon. I doubt the GL movie and series will be made. I don’t want that to happen to Flash. Recast at the end and make Flash 2 with the new actor.
TheSuperMex - 9/16/2022, 10:05 AM
@TheWalkingCuban - he literally in no other movie coming out that wasn’t filmed before all the shit came out. He has no upcoming projects. You expect them to refilm an entire movie? The budget would probably double. Canceling the movie would probably cost them a lot more money. The new management for WB are known to cater to middle America so why would they care about protecting a trans person? James Franco isn’t trans or gay but now is getting work even after his creepy shit came out.
TheWalkingCuban - 9/16/2022, 10:09 AM
@TheSuperMex - I get your point but I do not buy that this has nothing at all to do with the alphabet. I just don’t buy that.
mountainman - 9/16/2022, 10:24 AM
@TheWalkingCuban - Yes this is another area that is important to distinguish biological sex. Whatever you identify and present yourself as is certainly one thing - but medical care can often be sex specific.

I get concerned about biological females that give birth while on transitioning hormones / testosterone. There’s no way that doesn’t impact the baby. Testosterone and Estrogen mean something to biology.
TheSuperMex - 9/16/2022, 11:20 AM
@TheWalkingCuban - so when Miller doesn’t come back for part 2, will you say they are still being protected as an “alphabet”? Using your logic Miller would still have multiple jobs lined up but he doesn’t. Why do many non-trans actors getting jobs after they found out to be pieces of shit? Kevin Spacey came out as gay and has been black listed. Why doesn’t this protection help him get new work? Same with Bryan Singer? Both of their careers are dead.
Dredd97 - 9/16/2022, 4:31 AM
I would say that's a long over due decision on everyone's part
Origame - 9/16/2022, 4:45 AM
@Dredd97 - only reason why it wasn't already the case is because it's such an expensive production. Gotta do something to at least try to get that money back.
