Grant Gustin Reveals Plans To Introduce Alternate Timelines And Earth-Two In THE FLASH

Tonight, Barry Allen will travel back in time to try and save his mother from the Reverse-Flash. However, it sounds like his trip will have greater ramifications than we first thought as Grant Gustin reveals here that we're going to see different timelines and dimensions in season two...

Big changes are coming to the world of The Flash, with Grant Gustin revealing in an interview with TV Guide that Barry Allen's trip to the past in tonight's finale "doesn't necessarily go as planned," meaning that the future - including his marriage to Iris - will be subject to change. In fact, his trip might just change this world as we know it. "What's fun about this show is that there's going to be multiple timelines as we move forward," Gustin revealed. "I think we're going to start showing Earth-One and Earth-Two in the near future. There will be kind of different dimensions going on." So, does that mean that we'll have two different timelines running in the series at the same time?

It's hard to say, but this obviously opens the door to almost countless storytelling possibilities, and might just explain why we recently saw Jay Garrick's helmet in a Legends of Tomorrow set photo. It could also mean that we'll see alternate versions of characters we know, such as Killer Frost and Vibe, and might also result in The Flash existing in a world separate from Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow"It gets a little Rubik's Cube-y in terms of keeping consistency between all these timelines and whatnot," Carlos Valdes says. "But the writers have their stuff together. If I were to trust anyone, it would be them." What do you think? As always, share your thoughts below.

@RetroFit

If he was actually Barry from any timeline, Cisco would've found out because of that blood/DNA test he took at the crime scene in Barry's old home.

Shit.....could my theory way back when about Barry's dad actually being Jay Garrick hold true?

Interesting. Maybe this could be a way for The Flash, Arrow, Legends of Tommorow to cross over with the movies down the line or merge into one universe. I think that Grant Gustin and Stephen Amell can hold there own with Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill. Maybe this is the crossover Geoff Johns was alluding to.

I've been saying for a while that this will be a great way to put great spins on existing characters. How cool would it be that Barry emerges amidst a fight with Killer Frost?

The finale is going to blow minds. The worst part will be sitting back after the credits and realizing it will be months before we get even a glimpse of another episode. I hope the cliff hanger isn't too killer.

[frick] YES!!!!!!!!!!!

Now all they need to do is make John Wesley Shipp as Jay Garrick in the alternate timeline and I'm set!

If the CW truly embraces the alternate dimensions idea, I feel like they owe us a Smallville universe episode that takes place after the finale, after the no tights no flights thing. Don't forget, Jay Garrick exists in the Smallville universe with the rest of the Justice Society.

I am loving this show, but hope they don't do to season 2 what DC did to their comics, and turn everything into a convoluted cluster[frick] with the whole multi-verse thing. It is one thing to try and explain that shit (and badly, usually) in the comics, but on TV could just be a real mess.

So in other words: CW, don't [frick] up my favorite broadcast show!

Except Arrow has paid respect to a lot of its Green Arrow mythos, especially going into next season with the actual debut of Green Arrow along with Speedy. The only true failure I see is the incompetence when it comes to the identity of Count Vertigo.
