Robert De Niro Confirms Interest In Uncharted Movie Adaptation!

The actor who has been linked to David O. Russell's controversial planned adaptation of the hit video game franchise has now confirmed that he's open to the project but has not yet seen a script...

David O. Russell being nominated for 'Best Director' and having his latest movie, The Fighter, also up for an Academy Award has done little to ease the minds of worried fans of the Uncharted franchise. Having made it clear that he has his own ideas for where a big screen adaptation should take Nathan Drake (set to be played by Mark Whalberg) the status of the project is currently unknown with the director said to be interested in several other projects, and the games creators, Naughty Dog, denying that the drastic and unpopular changes previously mentioned will in fact be taking place.

Perhaps the only good piece of news surrounding the planned film was that there were roles written in mind for veteran actors Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci. In a recent interview with MTV News, the former confirmed his interest in the film but revealed that he's not yet read a script or been offered anything officially.

"Absolutely, sure. I'm aware of it. I haven’t seen it yet. I thought he did a terrific [job] in 'The Fighter.'"

So there you have it. While it would be great to see the actor play a part in the adaptation of such a fantastic series of video games, nothing I've heard from O. Russell has left me with any interest in seeing it get made! Be sure to share your thoughts in the usual place!

If Russel is indeed going with that whole family art thieves story, then I honestly don't know what to say. Uncharted game is epic in so many ways, starting with the story. Let's hope they will take something from the game.

@karynpftw: vash epic win epic fail

I agree whole-heartedly. This film just needs to FAIL, because that's the direction it's already headed in. Adding family to Drake's life is dumb and uncalled for. I played both games religiously, and the only mention of a family is Drake's ancestor, Drake, lol. Just because De Niro expresses interest doesn't mean shit. He can express it all he wants. They better not make this movie. I.WILL.KILL.THEM.ALL.

Who is De Niro going to play? The uncle? Having "seasoned" actors play roles that don't exist isn't going to win anybody over lol. They better keep the plot in check before filming. There is so much backlash on the family thing, I don't see how they could get away with doing it now.

Shame he would've made a good Sully.

Deniro would be a good Sully but I prefer J.K. Simmons or Bruce Campbell. I've played both Uncharted games alot and there is no family, this should be made like Indiana Jones mixed with Tomb Raider.

I was literally thinking about weather or not they would touch this idea in the car TODAY!! I'm excited if the first movie is almost identical to the first game. And Chris Evans should be Drake.

If O Russell insists on changing everything, then I hope this movie is never made. If he stays faithful to the games tho, de Niro would be great as Sully!

@AlexDeLarge87: Minus Affleck, your fan cast is damn-near perfect. I could hardly imagine better.

@AlexDeLarge that's a hell of a fan cast, near perfect (although I agree with Jer3miah, not feeling Affleck as Drake)

Jer3miah and ACira@ thanks. And why i chose Affleck is that nowadays he has become a better actor (The Town, Smokin´ Aces, State of Play, Changing Lanes, Hollywoodland), he can do action (The Sum of All Fears, Paycheck, Reindeer Games) and has the looks for the role. Hell he even can be funny too (Dogma)
Maybe he is not the best choice possible but i prefer him over Wahlberg.

@Alex, you've got a point, he IS a better choice than Mark, and I dont think Ive seen any of the films you listed, so my comment was based on the earlier stuff i have seen.

Vital@ Agree. Im not big Affleck fan but i think this role suits him very well.

ACira@ Yeah Mark is good actor too but this role is wrong for him.
Some of those movies are really good. Specially Changing Lanes, State of Play and Dogma (which are my favorites).

@Alex: Affleck is a fine actor. I don't have a problem with his skill. I just feel that he's too old and not the right build or charisma Drake has. Even though Wahlberg physically fits Drake, his charisma and persona for the character conflicts. I like them both as actors, just not as Drake. Even though I hate where they're going with this, they're better off casting an unknown in his mid 20s for the role. At least they can narrow down the right fit as an unknown. As for the girl to play Chloe, I think that should be different, also. Chloe has a big ass in the game and the girl you put up doesn't have any ass, lol. Chloe's tanned, too. Real tanned..
