Edgar Wright Talks ANT-MAN And Marvel Studios; "It’s A Big Effects Movie"

Glad he's at least pleased with Avengers. Perhaps he won't mind Ant-Man crossing over at some point.

Marvel's "2nd Tier" characters seem to be taking a while to get off the ground. This might be perhaps Iron Man, Cap, Thor and Hulk are already established, but there just appears to be more energy behind those projects.

I do wonder how it works in terms of Avengers 2, does Joss write a script and say: "Hey I have written Avengers 2, it includes Ms. Marvel, so you we need her solo movie before, of which I need these elements included"

Or is it Fiege pushing the movies through and Joss has to work with what is produced, personally I would prefer the Joss option,however be interesting.

I'm sure we're going to get some awesome visuals in this film. I think we may be in for a very nice surprise come November 2015!

It's funny how we all hate crossover after crossover with every other book tying in, yet hate it when the movies DON'T do that. What's wrong with making a stand alone film? Is a stand alone issue that isn't tied in to AvX not good enough for you either? :P

Though I think that would be a damn cool Avengers 3 story, I think they're setting up World War Hulk for Phase 3.

I hope the movie focuses on Pym being ant man and using his super small stature to become a super spy. Hopefully at the end of the movie he will figure out how to reverse the process and become giant man, thus setting him up for a future as a super hero.

I wonder if the Ant-Man movie will have Scott Lang or Hank Pym. Big fan of both, but especially Lang. I know the rumors before had both characters in the script... but now?

@JatevinM I was talking about the names of the characters, not the characters themselves. You said people wont go to watch the movie because the name "Ant-Man" is silly but it's no less sillier than "Bat-Man" or "Spider-Man"

Reverend - Yeah, I read about that. As much as I'm amazed by that prospect, I hope they don't for numerous reason. Planet Hulk,sure 100%, but WWH creates more issues than anything.

MARVELPSYCHO79 - After seeing how they handled Reaper in A:EMH, 100% yes. If they cane make him close to that I'm all for it. He'd be a good villain for S.H.I.E.L.D.

Where is Boot-Man?

Sea monkeys and then that full-size cardboard tank or submarine for 4.99. Not to mention that ad were the bully kicks sand in the skinny guys face!

Once again, what should be met with huzahs and some happiness and joy is ripped to shreds before the first frame is even shot (test footage doesn't count).

Some thoughts:

It seems two things are taking place with the black/white reactions and frankly, very distasteful and befuddlingly angry responses. The first is thus:

The fan base is experiencing something called the "principle of diminishing returns". Think of a hot fudge sundae. That first one is SO good, but then you have a second in a row. It is good, but nowhere near as good as the first even though it is the same sundae. The comes a third and fourth. There comes a point where having a sundae is no longer a desirable thing. It can become a gross affair in the end. We haven't reached that point, but there is the demand to be wowed at every turn of the hat.

When Iron Man came out, we were all floored at the first trailer, how cool the movie was and how it finally happened: a comic book movie that was not campy nor condescending. Then came The Incredible Hulk which was fun and entertaining, but not as rewarding.

Then we had Iron Man 2 (which as a solid stand alone film) but it was not as thrilling. And the reactions to the trailers and news became watered down; we did not have the same initial reaction like that first IM.

Fast forward to Thor, Captain America and then of course, The Avengers. Thor and Cap were met with success but still, the fans were jaded and demanded more. Once that first Avengers trailer hit, we had that cherry high again. We were stunned and amazed because the thrill was higher/bigger/faster.

Now, we had a very very cool and fantastic trailer for IM3 and the fanboys let out a resounding "meh". Look at the IM3 trailer and imagine it was the first trailer for the first film - the first time we got to see IM on film. THAT would have been incredible! But now, you are jaded and angry. Angry over what though is the question.

Second - and this is the one that pisses me off. Fanboys feel they are OWED something. Sorry, but you are not. We want you entertained and in the seats but nothing is owed to you. Let me repeat that - NOTHING IS OWED TO YOU. You scream, yell, call the writers/directors/actors every name you can think of, but contribute NOTHING. You now feel you are owed a ANT MAN movie done to your exact specs or it is shit before it even gets made. We are so lucky to be in this period of time. Do you realize what we have? But no, you demand more because you feel it is owed to you. GET THE [frick] OVER IT.

Ant Man has tremendous potential and I reserve judgement on the final product until it is done and I am watching it. Something you children need to learn how to do.

Well Green Lantern was a big effects movie and look how that turned out...anyways, I do have hope for this movie. Ant Man can be a badass if written correctly
