The Penguin... Villain in the Dark Knight Rises? Fact or BS?

A user by the name of Filmkind has posted some script sides from Dark knight rises from a suppossed "inside source" claiming that the Penguin will be one of the Main villains in TDKR...

Theres a whole scene in the script describing penguin putting on a "prosthetic nose" and there are scenes between him and bruce Wayne! what do you guys think? could be true? Could be B.S. but I thought it was very interesting nonetheless!

I find it highly unlikely for this to be true. I mean I go by the phrase: Don't believe it until it comes from Nolan's mouth. The chances of Nolan or WB letting whole script pages leak out are VERY low.

Nolan also said Two-Face wasnt gonna appear in the Dark Knight (only Harvey Dent). He did say Penguin was tricky but he wanted the Penguin to play a minor role in Batman Begins as a Arms Dealer and he wanted Phillip Seymour Hoffman to play him at the time. He also said that he and David Goyer were trying to steer away from villains that we seen before but how possible is that really (most of the good villains have been done before). With all this hype built up around the movie fake stuff is gonna pop up left and right until something is confirmed (all this hype is exactly what Warner Bros wants, they probably put a fake script out there). Tom Hardy is definitely playing the Penguin though but that script is fake! Trust me...

P.S. DiCaprio will play the Riddler regardless of what has been said. Trust me.

I dunno... It just doesn't sound like the Nolanverse of the first two... I'm not sayin it's fake... it just doesn't sound like Nolan's style...

and Nolan did say the Penguin would be "tricky"... which makes me think that there are other villians he would rather use in TDKR...

Guys, check out the NEXT Sub-chapter of WHITE FIRE!

The Penguin, Killer Croc, Bane... They all can be reimagined and i dont believe anyone in these news not even Nolan himself, before its official! Nolan can change his mind when ever he wants like we all do everyday!
The Penguin would be awesome villain and Tom Hardy would be great as The Penguin!:)
Talia, Rupert Thorne and Black Mask or Bane as the other villains!:)
That prosthetic nose idea is stupid if you ask me! The Penguin should be a disfigured rich aristocratic who has his own criminal empire and who pretends to be very elegant and Nice man! But actually is a very brutal and short tempered, who beats the sh*t out of his henchmen or trows them in the mincer if they screw up in their job!
He should hide his disfigured face and pale skin with prosthectics or make up or some kind of mask!
This kind of Penguin would be great villain for the Nolan´s last Batfilm!
Tom Hardy, Phillip Seymour Hoffman or Bob Hoskins as The Penguin!

@SuperKalSapphire: Nobody else in the world is more secretive than Chris Nolan...
The guy wouldnt even tell us that Two Face would show up in The Dark Knight.
Why would he tell us that The Riddler is one of the next bad guys???
He has to leave us in suspense (when all the world was screaming it out and him knowing the whole world wants the Riddler) there is not a bigger villain he can go with.
Or a bigger actor than DiCaprio...Think about it!
Inception was a clue..
He needs somebody thats as big as Heath and that can do just as good a job as a villain. If not him who else??
Everyone of his Batman films has a mobster villain and 2 classic villains
BB: Scarecrow/Ras Al Ghul (villains) Falcone (mobster)
TDK: Joker/Two Face (viillains) Maroni (mobster)
Nolans a very smart guy so Im thinking he will use his brains and go with Riddler/Croc and the Penguin in the mobster role and I really think they will throw another villain in there just because its the 3rd and why not go out with a BIG bang!?!
Trust me
He wont let us down with this one...
@SuperKalSapphire you dont like Nolan?
You dont like BB and TDK??
The Dark Knight is my fav comic book movie ever the ending with the Joker couldve been better but its definitely the greatest cbm
I actually just took out Batman Begins blu ray
Now watching Inception blu ray!

SuperKal@ Robin wouldnt be bad choice but i would safe him for the future films!
Robin would need lots of screen time and im more interested about Batman´s life than Robin´s! In the future films where Batman would be much older i could see Robin hanging around there!
Talia, The Penguin and Black Mask or Bane as the villains! Thorne as the side villain

I don't think Robin fits in Nolan's movies... We'll have to wait for a new director who can work it in...

and I agree with AlexDeLarge666 - Robin requires too much screen time for the present story line...

I would like to see him in future movies though...

God no please no Robin this is Batman's story...
DC can do a Teen Titans movie..
Nolan would never.

I'm gunna wait till official news gets released before I start believing villain rumors. Personally I'm just hoping for a villain who batman can actually have an awesome fight with (maybe bane or croc). Catwoman or talia would be cool too. I can't wait till the first official news comes out ( dc really needs to release something soon cause marvel is hogging all the attention. Greedy bastards ;)

Penguin could work realistically. The DC Comics Encyclopedia states "Oswald Chesterfield Cobblepot based a criminal career as the Penguin on his fascination with birds and ornithology." He's short, paunchy with a prominant beaky nose...none of which are unrealistic. He could run the Iceberg Lounge publicly, and be an arms dealer on the DL, supplying to Gotham's criminal element. I personally think he could be a great side villian, just not the main one.
coderaven
coderaven - 12/29/2010, 10:17 AM
I think its fake, I don't recall many scenes in BB and TDK where the villians discussed their plans with the audience.

from the previous films villians are presented in the act of doing something, not talking.

Only exception I recall is a couple of scenes in BB, with the crime boss and others.

The only way to do Robin is to dedicate the whole movie with an establish, or assumed established batman story in place. It probably would work much better as a film designed as a Robin Film, not a Bats. Lets also remember Stan Lee's Arguement. Kids put into the line of fire playing superhero? Not really Nolans Style....

superwolverine - 12/29/2010, 11:45 AM
i agree and disagree with some of these comments. first of all this talk about nolan's batman & what fits in his universe doesn't make sense because it's a comic book, none of it is real. there's nothing realistic about a man dress up as a bat that's the whole point of the fantasy. if nolan's that good of a director\writer he could make any character work.

Nolan doesnt do basic and this seems like a basic idea.... the true Penguin is a gangster and night club owner.... In Nolans world he takes care of him in one scene and moves on...

m0th3r - 12/29/2010, 1:23 PM
@SupKal Thats kinda what i ment i guess. I just think the big part of the character is what developed Bruce into that person. They gave it the college try in the Val Kilmer flick, but i never felt vested. Dick Grayson (assuming they use him and not Tim)is an intersting guy, and i have to say a Robin (with bats) -> Robin 2 (solo) -> Nightwing trilogy would be pretty tight

There will be no Penguin, or Robin. Here's why no penguin:

Penguin lacks the psychological aspect that has been so very present in the past 2 films. The first one focused on fear, which is why Scarecrow worked so well. The second one focused on identity and what being Batman means, which is why the Joker worked as Batman's great contrast. Nolan has said that he wants it to be an emotional story, meaning it has to be a character that works with Batman on a human level. Penguins in a mob boss/arms dealer. Like said before, he could be passed over in a single scene.

No Robin because Nolan said his trilogy would feature no Robin, he's focusing on the bat. And Christian Bale has said that if there was ever Robin, he would not be playing Batman.

You can expect a Catwoman, or a Talia Al Ghul.

http://www.slashfilm.com/christian-bale-rules-out-robin-for-batman-3-and-beyond/

There's Bale's stance.

Nolan said in an interview that if Dick Grayson is alive in the universe of Batman Begins (and Dark Knight), then he is still in a crib somewhere. Unless The Dark Knight is taking place 10 years later, then Grayson would not be close to old enough to take up the mantle.

http://www.superherohype.com/features/articles/88967-nolan-on-robin-in-batman-sequels

There's some proof for you.
bigbadbat
bigbadbat - 12/30/2010, 1:37 AM
Yeah, so this is all a moot point. Since neither of us are Nolan, we cannot confirm, nor deny, the presence of Robin, no matter how unlikely. Again, arguing over the internet does nothing for anyone.

AlexDeLarge87 - 12/30/2010, 3:17 AM
bigbatbad@ I remember to read somewhere a rumor that there is going to be three villain, so IF thats true they could easily add Talia Al Ghul or Catwoman and The Penguin in the same movie.

If the villains are any of these im more than happy.
Talia, Hugo Strange, The Penguin, Black Mask, Bane, Deadshot, Rupert Thorne, Catwoman, David Cain, Anarky (adult version of him), Killer Croc, Red Hood, Firefly, Max Cort aka The Night Scourge, Scarecrow (again), Hush, Great White Shark or The Riddler and Two-Face

How ever my favorite choices are Talia, The Penguin, Hugo Strange, Bane, Killer Croc, Red Hood and Black Mask.

@SuperKal You know, it's bullshit fact-checking (Which I guarantee you did NONE of) and lashing out at other users that makes you give REAL comic book journalists look bad. You're ignorant and incredibly narrow minded, so until you can get level-headed and show a little professionalism, go ahead and quit posting BS articles like these. I KNOW this isn't true, because that fake script page is still up there. It would have been down in less than an hour if it were authentic. Besides, it barely looks like a script, it's missing some very basic elements.
