CAPTAIN MARVEL: Will Samuel L. Jackson And Clark Gregg Be Digitally De-Aged In The Movie?

Ant-Man and The Wasp superbly de-ages actors like Michael Douglas and Michelle Pheiffer but will Captain Marvel use those same effects for Samuel L. Jackson and Clark Gregg? Here's what Kevin Feige says...

As you're no doubt already well aware, Captain Marvel will be set in the 1990s and is set to feature younger versions of Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury and Clark Gregg's Agent Coulson. We first met those characters in 2008's Iron Man and they're bound to look quite a bit different a good decade or more earlier. So, it probably won't surprise you to learn that both actors are set to be digitally de-aged.

During a recent interview, Kevin Feige was asked about making them both look younger, and explained: "Well, I think having the option is pretty amazing.  And I think having the technology and even without spoiling anything, Sam Jackson is shooting a movie for us right now that takes, where he’s entirely 25 years younger the whole movie [Captain Marvel].  So that’ll certainly be the one."

That mention of Fury being 25 years younger seemingly confirms that Captain Marvel will take place in 1993, putting Carol Danvers' first solo outing in the early 90s and meaning she's been away from Earth for a very long time indeed. That'll make her return to the present day in Avengers 4 very interesting.

"And Coulson," Feige added. "So that’ll be the first one where it’s a character for the whole movie, as opposed to a glimpse at a certain period of time.  It’s the whole movie.  So it’s possible, assuming that works.  It’s possible. It’s very good when you are starting by the way with somebody like Michelle Pfeiffer or Michael Douglas or for that matter Samuel L. Jackson or Clark Gregg."

Does that mean Fury and Coulson will join Carol in outer space? That remains to be seen but they'll both clearly have sizeable roles in Captain Marvel. What do you think? Sound off down below.

I mean considering we've seen concept art from CM of Fury as a young guy with hair... I'd say it's pretty likely...

@L0RDbuckethead - ....maybe we get to see who Fury trusted that caused him to loose an eye(as stated in the CA:TWS)movie!

@incredibleTalk - God I hope not. I'm tired of throwaway lines being turned into full plot points of other movies.

Clark Gregg hasn't aged in 20 years, Sam Jackson don't crack much either.

It's gonna be interesting to see how they handle de-aging characters for an entire movie, not just for one or two scenes.

@MUTO123 - Probably mostly makeup, with some CGI touchups on scenes where they're directly facing the camera.

@MUTO123 - at least Marvel tends to do a fantastic job with de aging. Michael Douglas, Michelle Pfieffer, and Laurence Fishburne all looked great in Antman and the Wasp.

Both dont need much de-aging tech. Their basically immortal....like Donald Faison....or arguably Jane Fonda.

Just do what they did with Kurt Russell's de-ageing. Jackson nd Greeg really don't need much, except the hair.

On the set photos we've seen Jackson's been running around with dots on his face, so I thought we pretty much knew back then.

@Kyos - Thing is, the way they've handled it just with the makeup and the hair, I think if I'm watching that movie what we see right there in front of us is well within my suspension of disbelief to accept Fury is 25 years younger. He already looks noticably and believably younger right there.

@Kyos - That isn't gonna be deaging tech, he just ate dippin' dots on a rollercoaster.

But Fury didn't have hair back then...

can't deny this does make me a little nervous. Mind you, I was insanely impressed with each of the Kurt Russel, Michael Douglas and RDJ de-agings, but of course the key was getting in and getting out fast. Doing it for this much...
Part of what turned me off of the Grand Tarkin thing in Rogue One was the hubris in how much they were trying to pull off.

well, plus, doing it for that significant of a role (not just 1 but 2) surely that alone will wind up making Captain Marvel one of the highest budgeted movies in Marvel's history. Hell the de-aging of Robert Downey Jr was literally the last shot completed for Civil War. The VFX department had it finally fully rendered just less than 2 weeks before theatrical release (per the Russos)
Subtlespammer24
Subtlespammer24 - 7/6/2018, 2:22 PM
@CaptCoulson - yeah Tarkin is pretty rubbery and shiny, it’s pretty weird
Philip
Philip - 7/6/2018, 3:29 PM
@Subtlespammer24 - Well Tarkin was completely recreated on top of someone else's face.

With SLJ and Gregg they only have to edit out a few signs of aging.
