Starting today, Wonder Woman has a new costume!

In Wonder Woman #600, in comic book stores today, DC Comics artist and co-publisher Jim Lee redesigned her costume for the modern era.

Not only is there a new costume. Wonder Woman is also being taken in a new direction. Writer J. Michael Straczynski and artists Don Kramer and Michael Babinski will launch the Amazon Princess into an exciting and epic new era of adventure.

Wonder Woman's backstory is being altered. Starting in Wonder Woman #600, the Gods, for reasons unknown at this time, change the timeline. Paradise Island is no longer protected by the Gods and is attacked by an army. Hippolyta hands her 3 year old daughter Diana to guardians her take her away from Paradise Island. Therefore, Diana is no longer raised on Paradise Island, but in an urban setting.

What do you think of Wonder Woman's new costume and storyline?

Uh that sounds to drastic to me. I say keep it like it is. Why go this route, with all of the Animated movies & possibly a live action movie. I dissaprove. Nice pic but wuz up the Tiara?

I saw the new costume and while it is different from her old costume it is nice to see her covered a bit. rather than being a fanboy love affair she now has a costume that is more practical to fight with. Not so sure about the change in her origin it is a rather dramatic change but then the costume has a more urban feel to it anyway.

Why would they pick this? Fail

This just sounds stooopid! I like the painted on costume on the Playmate up there. If they are going to change the costume go with that. Leave WWs history alone.

The mini jacket looks too 80s - lose the sleeves. The changes don't sound as inspired as Birthright.

They should have design contests for new costumes!

I'm a little undecided about this.I'm not sure about the actual design, but it's good that she no longer looks like a hooker. Also, one of my main complaints about the character is her lack of a life outside of being Wonder Woman. This looks like they're fixing that. This might work.It seems like it's an instory retcon, so there is a reason for the alteration.

I do think she needs to lose the Black Canary jacket, thougth.

I could except the costume, but the whole changing the backstory is unexceptable!

tazmaniak - 6/29/2010, 5:54 PM
Well, her origin has been changed at least three times. So has every other character that over 20 years old. This is no different.

I like the costume but overall I don't like they made a huge change like this. I can understand this costume for Cassie (Wonder Girl) but not for Diana (Wonder Woman).
Checkmate

The change in the timeline is a no-no, the costume looks fine but I'd rather she have her classic look. To me, it looks like something a grown up Wonder Girl would wear.

That's huge. That's something that should be done in an alternate reality story, not in the main time line. This is crazy. Why not make a new character? Why do this?
ROMACK

TEA@ EPIC FAIL dude

This would be better, and it would probably have a better backstory from the looks of it.

I really think some costumes need a good revamping if the character has evolved a lot. But she is no Steve Rogers. I like the original. It was very iconic.

Damn I dont like it I love her origin and I was hoping they would explore more of this when Bruce comes back.

Very cool...modern yet old fashion. Very cool and very sexy

I like Except the pants should be blue and no jacket.

Preferably i'd liked a more Roman/Greek style aromour- war skirt, chest shaped armour with symbols engraved (ie gold bird across upper chest), gauntlets and helmet-like crown

@Dmon I agree I was hoping they would explore more of that too.

This. . .This is !NOT! AWEsome. This is also completely stupid! There was nothing wrong with her origin and her old outfit was SeXy. Her knew one just makes her look like a ghetto piece of trash. . .
tazmaniak
tazmaniak - 6/29/2010, 7:24 PM
Did you guys actually read the article? They are not changing her origin in the DC Universe. They are changing her origin within the story. She's going to have to figure out what happened, and will probably have to decide if she wants to keep her new life or get back her old one.

It also says she's raised in an urban setting, that's why her costume looks that way.It wouldn't look like her old one.

The changes are part of the story they are telling, though the conclusion may make the changes permanent.

Always like Jim's take on costumes. (see below picture)

WW's jacket is a little 'meh' - but I'm digging it.

Very few heroes wear their original threads. They have all had a few changes here and there.

Eventually we all settle on a favorite. Personally, I like to see a little variety. Like this.

She's pretty much worn the same costume since she was created. While it's iconic, it's not very remarkable, practical or dignified.

"It’s a look designed to be taken seriously as a warrior, in partial answer to the many female fans over the years who’ve asked, 'how does she fight in that thing without all her parts falling out?'" said incoming series writer J.

Michael Straczynski.

Meh...
DDD
DDD - 6/30/2010, 12:08 AM
I like Straczynski's writing and usually like
Jim Lee's art but this is just plain stupid!
The costume is simply ugly and uncreative!

This is not the sexy WW that she has always been!
Even if the story is an alternate one where she
grows up in an urban setting the costume needs to
be sexy! WW is sexy not Amish! This costume is
non-sexy and flat! I mean dark drab long
pants-tights? Give me a break! I think Jim Lee
is losing it or something! Uhg!!!
tazmaniak
tazmaniak - 6/30/2010, 12:51 AM
DDD, I think that may be the whole point of the costume change. She's not supposed to be outright sexy. She's supposed to look heroic.Sexy and slutty are too seperate things.Having less clothes doesn't make you more sexy. For instance, Rogue wears far more clothing than Emma Frost, and is way more sexy.
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 6/30/2010, 4:22 AM
it won't last. every time DC or Marvel change the costume of one of their iconic characters, it ALWAYS goes back to their classic uniform. ALWAYS.

marvel72 - 6/30/2010, 4:34 AM
not bad,but i think it needs to be more revealing.

McLovin

Wow. Talk about fail. Here, allow me to illustrated why this is such a massive FAAAAIIIL!!!!!

CAUSE ITS BEEN DONE AND IT SUCKS!!!

Oh and CDB basically identified what will happen. It ALWAYS goes back to the original. ALWAYS!

Although I do agree with MovieTheaterLad. If you are going to update the look, then make her look like a Greek warrior in full female armor. Nuff said.

McLovin

Then again ... if it ain't broke, DON'T FCUKING FIX IT!!!

This is about as dumb an idea as Red and Blue Superman! WTF?! I can understand taking CERTAIN liberties with the mythos, but to change ENTIRE chucks of this is totally UNACCEPTABLE! What's next, Superman and Lois Lane have an emo kid with superpowers and an asthma problem?! Oh, waitasec... DAMN YOU TO HELL, WB!!!!!
