Disney has released the first trailer for its upcoming animated feature, Encanto, which tells the story of "an extraordinary family, the Madrigals, who live hidden in the mountains of Colombia in a magical house, in a vibrant town, in a wondrous, charmed place called an Encanto."

Stephanie Beatriz voices 15-year-old Mirabel, the only child without a unique gift who’s struggling to find her place in her family.

“Mirabel is a really funny, loving character who also deeply yearns for something more,” says Beatriz. “She’s also not afraid to stand up for what she knows is right—something I love and relate to very much. I’m Colombian on my father’s side, and playing this role fills me with immense pride."

"As a Disney kid, I’d burn through my VHS tapes and adored every single magical story that the world of Disney introduced me to. I learned in those that stories that anything is possible, especially if you believe in magic and the goodness rooted deep inside us all.”

The tune you hear in the trailer is “Colombia, Mi Encanto,” by 17-time Grammy and Latin Grammy winner Carlos Vives. The movie will also include all-new original songs from Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton, Moana).

The magic of the Encanto has blessed every child in the family with a unique gift from super strength to the power to heal—every child except one, Mirabel. But when she discovers that the magic surrounding the Encanto is in danger, Mirabel decides that she, the only ordinary Madrigal, might just be her exceptional family’s last hope.

Encanto also features the voice talents of María Cecilia Botero, Wilmer Valderrama, Adassa, Diane Guerrero, Mauro Castillo, Angie Cepeda, Jessica Darrow, Rhenzy Feliz and Carolina Gaitan.

Oh wow. Really do love when disney makes movies about different cultures. (Reads article where Disney tries to trademark Dia de Los Muertos)

@Origame - Man, I wish Dia de los muertos was half as nice as it is in Coco. Even mexicans liked the Disney version more.

@Razorface1 - I get that. But the Dia de los Muertos trademark really highlighted that this was more a Pixar film than disney.

Unpopular opinion, but I really don’t get Hollyweird’s obsession with Lin-Manuel Miranda. Hopefully this movie is good.

@ImBatman4realz - Same. He's got a good enough "look" about him, but I don't find him to be a standout while on screen. Maybe he's just a fun guy to have on set and he brings a good attitude? That alone can get you far.

Representation matters! This looks SO cute and SO fun! My only wish for this film is by the end of it she DOESN'T get ANY superpowers. The lesson is her superpower is just being herself. Or something along those lines. Regardless, it looks good! Can't wait to see it.

Would look better if it were 2D.

@BritishMonkey - but Hollywood is lazy everything is cgi crap effects makeup

@dragon316 - And that's what irritates the shit out of me.
It's quicker and easier and cheaper for them to do 3D than to put some actual artistic soul into their films anymore.

@dragon316 - I would've agreed with you if I hadn't seen the trailer. 2D animation is timeless. But the ingenuity of the animation and rendering quality Disney has achieved here are far away from lazy. Just the way the light is displayed on the tiles looms amazing. Also 2D stylized spirit is still present in the design and animation.
