The Rock is going on a Rampage! After defeating an earthquake in San Andreas, the former WWE champion will turn his attention to a trio of giant monsters in a film adaptation of the classic Midway video game. Variety report that Johnson will also produce for New Line along with Beau Flynn, with Ryan Engle (Non-Stop) currently working on the script.

In the game players took control of either a massive gorilla (think King Kong), lizard (think Godzilla), or a wolf (think... um, Ghost from Game Of Thrones) and attempted to lay waste to as many cities as possible before the military could stop you. Plot details are under wraps, but it's assumed Johnson would play the hero going up against these creatures, and not one of the creatures themselves - though how cool would that be?

Anyway, Johnson has a LOT on his plate so production is not expected to kick off until next Summer.

I ... Wow.... Yes, I'm in. Probably one of the most memorable early games and strangely could make for a super fun movie. Rock as Wolfman tho, turns good maybe or just eats the other monsters.

Too many humans in giant smash-up movies. Let the monsters be the protagonists for once.

Can it just be about a giant Rock running around wrecking shit? Don't even just explain why, the Rock is just giant and decides to [frick] shit up. It'd probably be more entertaining than the actual movie.

@rabid Like Cloverfield or Pacific Rim?

I actually don't mind Dwayne Johnson, he's mostly entertaining and seems to be a decent human being. But this and the Big Trouble in Little China remake have me nervous. Surely there's other stuff he should be doing, lol.

The Rock is such a down-to-Earth dude. He would've been a perennial All American D lineman at Miami and probably would've been drafted into the NFL if Warren Sapp hadn't come along his sophomore year. I guess he's done okay for himself, though.

Holy shit, I love these games! I'm assuming this movie won't be "good" because most game adaptations and The Rock movies stink but that's still crazy. Even though it will be bad, I'm still interested.

I'd make it into a 3D animated film and have him voice the giant monkey why not.

I remember this game to. Whole lot of craziness and fun. An adaptation of Rampage would really bring back some fun that we've been missing in movies lately.

Maybe I'm mistaken, but I thought WB owns Midway. Because WB owns Mortal Kombat and that was a Midway IP. I guess Fox could be licensing the IP from them. I think this is an odd movie that could be made. In my opinion there is better video games that deserve a movie, but I guess I'm wrong. I hope this will be a cartoon movie over live action though, because I just feel like if it's a cartoon it'd be more fun.

This really needs to just be The Rock playing either George or Ralph and the whole movie being nothing but destruction and carnage. That'd be a goddamn blast.
