RUMOR: Logan Lerman STILL the Frontrunner for Spider-Man

The young actor is reportedly locked to get the part, but is it all truth, or are we just getting caught in a tangled web of lies?

Entertainment news website Hit Fix is reporting that Logan Lerman, the young rising actor from such films as The Patriot, The Butterfly Effect, 3:10 to Yuma, Gamer, and the recent hit movie Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief, is apparently Sony's locked in choice for the role of Peter Parker in the upcoming reboot of the Spider-Man film franchise. Hit Fix states:

"A source close to the production tells HitFix Lerman is "almost 100% locked" but not in contract negotiations for the role yet.

It also reports that Logan had beaten out Anton Yelchin, Jesse Eisenberg, Patrick Fugit and Johnny Simmons.

The film, which will be directed by 500 Days of Summer director, and self-proclaimed USM fan, Marc Webb, is already riding on a wave of fan worries, from the possible coulda been that was Spider-Man 4 to the possible direction the new franchise may or may not take.

Now, before we all go off on a tizzy about this, let us consider the fact that a lot of Spider-man's greatest stories were told from his days in high-school, whether it be the first 40 or so issues that established his rogues galley, or be it the other highly praised versions that were Ultimate Spider-Man and Spectacular Spider-Man.



Personally, I hope they do 3 things with this franchise:

1) Skip the origin story. Go the SSM route and just jump right on in.
2) Introduce different villains. Everyone knew Green Goblin, Dr. Octopus, and Venom as Spidey's greatest foes long before the movie came out, so let's try a hand at other ones, particularly The Lizard since he's my favorite :3c
3) No web shooters, please. They're dumb and less realistic then than the bio webs.

But yeah. In the words of Saint Walker, "All Will Be Well".

is this another rumor or the studio leaking news which has been buzzing on the net since Feb when Lerman was first mentioned? Sounds more credible than the last round of rumors.

i think lerman could pull it off. Percy not his best performance and the script was really clunky but at least he's not an annoying Disney or Twilight actor and has actually done pretty decent work in 3:10 to Yuma, Gamer, Bill and My One and Only.

And the studio is casting someone who's a teenager to play a teenager.

now if only we could get some indication on who the villain for the first movie in this new trilogy will be

I'm really excited to hear that they are going with a teenage Spider-man. I think the first franchise is the reason I didn't like the character that. A grown man swinging around in tights. That's the way I saw.

With the character being a teenager, it's more believable for me. whoa never thought I'd be glad to here spidey news. awkward

Agreed Tea-Parker is supposed to be a genius. I remember one comic alluded that his spider powers gave him a better understanding how to make web shooters.

That and the fact he didn't want to keep pulling it out of his ass like a spider does.

And I think the new Spider-man will indeed be in the same universe as Iron Man and Thor, only because Marvel Studios is producing the film.

I'm with teabag. The web-shooters were always a huge point of contention in the comics. Spider-Man running out of web fluid at critical times during battles with supervillians always provided much needed conflict.

as for the web shooters, I could go either way on that one. they both have their pros and cons

@MTL-Let's not use the cartoon as our reference point shall we? And who says he has to run away. it just makes for good conflict. He doesn't even have to run out of webbing at all. That was only used sparingly.

Peter Parker is a genius. It was never really touched on in the films. Good point about the tracers, Tea. Remember, he would also modify his webbing to deal with a specific villain too.

Percy Jackson made $218 million.So far it's the third highest grossing movie of the year.I'd think he'd be obligated to do sequels.I don't know their schedule, but it seems to me the next one would come out the same time as Spider-Man.

they need to do an origin story if they are rebooting it. but this time show what a genius he is and have the lab with the radioactive light and spider transformation as Spidey's origin. and yes no web shooters. and green goblin should be just like the comics no power ranger green goblin.

Sigh...well, looks like we're stuck with a teen Spider-Man for now then. I like Lerman and he's a good actor so I cant complain if this news is indeed true but I just wish that we were getting a Spidey movie set in the same sort of continuity as the current comic books!

However, if they do this right and leave the Ultimate stuff to a minimum (taking their main inspiration from the Stan Lee/Steve Ditko days) then this has the potential to be brilliant. Personally, I think it might be interesting to include the web shooters this time. Are they unrealistic? Yes. But then again, so is a man in a flying metal suit and a Norse God with a hammer. :P

Ugh...I really hate the thought of Logan Lerman as Spidey. As a hard-core Spidey fan I DISSAPROVE..obviously others will disagree with me but he seriously just doesn't feel right for the role at all.

And what's with all of the web-shooter hate? Web-shooters aren't supposed to be realsitic...seriously who cares about that?! You can believe that a kid can get bitten by a Spider and end up with superpowers but building a set of web-shooters is sooooo silly? Yeah right. Besides web-shooters make more sense, apparently (don't know if this is true or not so...)only female spiders can actually make webs, like i said im not all to sure on that claim, HOWEVER that would mean that if a spider passed on its DNA Peter couldn't produce webs because he's male.

So there ya go :P

I really do not like the fact that Spider-man is being rebooted I loved Sam Raimi's movies and I think it is stupid that it is being rebooted because you only reboot something that is not a success.

I don't think Lerman is the Spiderman type he is more of a Robin type. Maguire is Spider man.

I think Lerman's great for the role(despite Percy Jackson making him look bad),if you want to see how well he can be nerdy watch Jack and Bobby and if you want to see him be funny watch Meet Bill with Aaron Eckhart but if you want to see him be determined watch 3:10 to Yuma plus i'll take him over any Twilight/Disney Channel actors(I dont count Zac efron in that ballpark because he's transitioned from that and has the acting chops to pull it off IMO). But Maguire was NOT playing Spidey like he was in the comics because Peter Parker was never a terminally depressed loser that might be contemplating suicide like in Raimi's movies.

P.S. Raimi's movies were a good test demo for a Spider-Man film but in no way definitive.

Sounds good to me,plus Raimi had it backwards with a depressed Spidey going into a bright and goofy city,when it's supposed to be a positive and funny Spidey going into a serious city of crime and villains. If they follow Ultimate Spidey's characterization of Peter Parker but not everything else(by that I mean Hulk-Goblin and other things) I could get behind this.

The reason why Peter had to use web shooters was explained in the arc The Other. The spider told him that he didn't except the spider within him and portrayed it as if the spider was outside. Once Peter accepted the spider within him he gained night vision, organic webbing, and became more powerful. Which sadly was erased in Brand New Day but the web shooters were merely Peter externalizing the Spider. So it is acceptable to have organic webbing, it has been done in the comics.

i'm not happy about the reboot. everyone saying yay for a reboot and want to see web cartridges are going to be very pissed when every spidy flick that comes out has him running out of web during the final bout.

screw the reboot and keep the cast and everyone you have!
