Game of Thrones Season 4 premieres April 6 at 9PM on HBO

Summers span decades. Winters can last a lifetime. And the struggle for the Iron Throne has begun. It will stretch from the south, where heat breeds plots, lust and intrigues; to the vast and savage eastern lands; all the way to the frozen north, where an 800-foot wall of ice protects the kingdom from the dark forces that lie beyond. Kings and queens, knights and renegades, liars, lords and honest men...all will play the 'Game of Thrones.'

Given the upped production value of this series and I'm presuming the ratings will rocket to over 10 million every episode now, hopefully the budget only increase. Plus, GRRM has time to do the other two. S4 is based on the second half of B3 right? So S5 and S6 both split up B4 and S7 and S8 both split up B5. And then S9 and S10 do B6 when it's done and them S11 and S12 for B7?

@Martian

I think book 4 will be just one season.

I searched the number of pages of all the books, and here ya go:

1.A Game of Thrones | 704
2.A Clash of Kings | 784
3.A Storm of Swords | 992
4.A Feast for Crows | 784
5.A Dance with Dragons | 959

So maybe just the 5th book will be split up into two seasons, given it has more or less the same amount of pages as book 3.

Hope I could help ya. :)

They've already sped up some of the stories though, e.g. Theon.
Tbh I think GRRM will die before he finishes book 7, but at least there are people he trusts with the direction who could take over.

Book 4 and the first half+ of book 5 cover the same time frame, only from different POVs. I'm not sure how they're gonna adapt them, but I could imagine that seasons 5+6 might cover the parts of book 4+5 that run parallel, and season 7 deals with the rest of book 5.

Although in my personal opinion the books 4 and 5 tend to drag at some points, and with the show already taking quite some liberties in their adaptations and the creators having at least an outline of Martin's future plans I think they might condense those two books into two seasons, focusing on the ton of already established characters and cutting down the circumferential new characters and arcs to some degree.

We'll see. Can't wait on S4 anyways! A Storm of Swords was my favourite of the books, and some of the best parts are yet to come. :D

Best show on television. I've seen every episode 4 times.

I usually watch each episode asap, and then rewatch the season in 3 session with 3-4 episodes with some friends who don't know the books. Watchting them watch the Red Wedding was... fun. >:D

They're really laying it on thick that a certain character will meet their end this season...

Ugh April seems so far away! I also have started rewatching GoT from the very beginning again to help pass the time...it's amazing how many things I've caught that I missed the first time around, like subtle foreshadowing to future events. Everything about this series in incredible: the acting, the dialogue, the sets, the locations, the plot. I still go back and forth between this and the BBC Sherlock series being the best show on television right now...that's an accomplishment in and of itself.

As for the spoiler, I haven't read the books so I have no idea if he was joking or if it actually IS a spoiler....but if you go into this series and expect some characters NOT to die, well I'm not sure what to tell you. Based on everything that's happened so far, I'm fully expecting all my favorite characters to die horrible deaths at some point. That mindset definitely helps with any so-called spoilers I might accidentally run into haha.

@sauronsbane1 of course i expect it sir, its not about that, its about spoiling when and how, don't spoil that this season a certain character will die

Jon Snow is gonna kick ass this season. and really excited about the viper. and I've no idea how everything's gonna go down now seen as some story arcs have sped up and certain characters have intersected at an earlier point than they ought to have been.

Yeah I hear ya DCfan89. I hate spoilers with a passion but personally, spoiling deaths doesn't have as much of an impact on me when it comes to GoT. That's just me though. It's absolutely still a dick move to go ahead and spoil stuff for no reason.
