DAREDEVIL Adds 6 To Cast; Including Matt Gerald As 'Melvin Potter/Gladiator'
Thanks to a recent set report we knew that Marvel Comics character Gladiator would factor into Netflix's Daredevil series, and now we know who'll be playing him. Plus, we have 5 other villains for the Man Without Fear to contend with. More past the jump...
Marvel and Netflix's Daredevil has added Rob Morgan, Matt Gerald, Peter Shinkoda, Wai Ching Ho, Nikolai Nikolaeff and Gideon Emery to its cast. Out of that bunch, only two would appear to be playing established Marvel Comics characters: Rob Morgan (Person of Interest) will play small-time Hell's Kitchen criminal Turk Barret (aka Mauler), and Gerald (Avatar) will be taking on the role of Melvin Potter, also known as Gladiator, who starts out as an enemy of Matt Murdock's but later becomes an ally. On the show he'll be "a machinist caught between a rock and a hard place".
The others are all playing characters on the side of Wilson Fisk/The Kingpin: Shinkoda (Falling Skies) is Nobu (a Japanese businessman with a mysterious agenda), Ho (Law And Order: SVU) will play Madame Gao (a powerful woman running her own trade), while Nikolaeff (Camp) and Emery (Grimm) will play Vladimir and Anatoly, two Russian brothers looking to forge names for themselves in America.
“It’s an honor to be working with such a talented and diverse group of artists who vividly bring these characters to life,” said director Steven S. DeKnight in the press release. “The challenge in bringing ‘villains’ to the screen is always in portraying them as three-dimensional characters. Our actors exceeded all expectations in this regard, crafting deeply flawed, wonderfully human antagonists.”
All 13 episodes of Daredevil will be available to watch on Netflix from Friday, April 10.
