The first teaser for She-Hulk: Attorney at Law was met with something of a mixed reaction from fans, but the full trailer that debuted during San Diego Comic-Con over the weekend seemed to go over a lot better.
The footage featured noticeably improved VFX, fourth wall-breaking, funny gags, and brief appearances from several obscure Marvel Comics characters such as Man Bull, Frog Man, and The Wrecking Crew. Of course, Daredevil also showed up right at the end, and it sounds like the Disney+ series has a few more surprises in store.
While speaking to Deadline at SDCC, head writer Jessica Gao confirmed that certain Marvel Comics heroes and villains will be making their MCU debuts during the show.
"It's a lot of fun, a lot of cameos, and a lot of characters that have never existed in the MCU before that we’re pulling out of the comic books. What I'm most excited about is really getting the time and the space to explore this character fully. Because in the Marvel movies, it's always these high-stakes events—the universe is ending, half the people in the entire existence are getting snapped out. We never really have the time to explore who these people are. What are their regular lives like? And what's really nice about this is we actually get the time and the space to do that."
We wouldn't be surprised if Gao was referring to some of the lower-tier characters Jennifer Walters will encounter as she heads-up her Superhuman Law Firm, but there's always a chance we'll see at least one major player put in an appearance to set-up more street level adventures down the line.
Given his many brushes with the law, is Frank Castle a possibility? Fans are hoping to see Jon Bernthal reprise his role from Netflix's now defunct Marvel shows, but She-Hulk may not be the best fit for The Punisher from a tonal standpoint!
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law follows Jennifer Walters as she navigates the complicated life of a single, 30-something attorney who also happens to be a green 6-foot-7-inch superpowered hulk. The nine-episode series welcomes a host of MCU vets, including Mark Ruffalo as Smart Hulk, Tim Roth as Emil Blonsky/the Abomination, and Benedict Wong as Wong. The cast also includes Ginger Gonzaga, Josh Segarra, Jameela Jamil, Jon Bass and Renée Elise Goldsberry. Executive producers are Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Brad Winderbaum, Kat Coiro and Jessica Gao. Co-executive producers are Wendy Jacobson and Jennifer Booth.
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law is set to premiere on Disney+ on August 17.
