Mark Millar Says "X-Men: DOFP" Is X-MEN Meets TERMINATOR

The newly minted mastermind behind 20th Century Fox's planned Avengers-esque cohesive universe, Mark Millar recently offered up a titillating tidbit about the direction the sequel to X-Men: Fist Class is headed.

We have a brief update here from comic writer and Fox Creative Consultant (Fantastic Four and X-Men) Mark Millar on the upcoming X-Men film, Days of Future Past. This is what Millar had to say:

[Matthew] Vaughn is going for a big sci-fi style thing with X-Men: Days of Future Past....(it's) X-Men meets The Terminator. You've got robots, you've got time travel, you've got superheroes - it's got everything in one film. He also said that it is "no spoiler on [his] part" to say that the film goes into an apocalyptic future. Cost-wise it's going to go up, and ambitious-wise it's gone up. But Vaughn can handle it. Vaughn made Kick-Ass for $28 million."

There's no mention of what superheroes we'll see or which time periods that the time-travel aspect will focus on, so it's pretty much anyone's guess at this point if anyone like Patrick Stewart or Famke Janssen will show up from the original "X-Men" films for the new one, as previously reported. That said, I'm sure we'll see Wolverine involved at some point, since he's been in every X-Men film so far, down to his cameo in "First Class". What do you guys think of the news?

And he openly stated that he was open to work with Marvel Studios and incorporate the MCU which would only help both if done correctly.

I smell Nimrod. Didn't he get sent back in time in 90's animated series to kill mutants?

I smell alot of film history being retconned by this. I feel like Jean and Cyclops are going to be revived by it and alot of stuff is just going to be set right.

The plots going to go like this: X3 is going to lead to an apocolyptic future with the sentinels and Wolverine travels back in time to the original x men days starring the classic line up, changing history, which would reboot the franchise and we will now get some good x men movies.

Note: X Men, X2, and First Class were the on good movies in the franchise

If this turns out to be the actual plot, remember that I called it.

^Not true. She can change her look, due to the terrible state of the world, with all the Sentinels and whatnot.

Eeeeeehhhhh no. The X-men are ok IF, IF, they are kept to a manageable group of about 6 or so. You just can't focus on too many characters at once for a film to be any good. Days of Future Past would just muddle things. Future mutants, present mutants, future mutants in the present... I don't know. I would, however like to see a non-purple sentinel.

Please just do the story right...that's all I ask. Include Kitty, and Wolverine...I know, I know, sick of Wolverine, but he's a major player in this story. Just respect the source material, and give one of the greatest X-Men stories a great film.

Okay. So 20th Century Fox is actually making their first X-Men film that isn't watered down. Seriously though, I'm pretty confident about Days Of Future Past. Oh, and is that apocalyptic future X-Men: The Last Stand?

:P
