Tom Hiddleston Confirmed To Reprise His Role As Loki For The Avengers?

Tucked away in the Deadline article which revealed that Cobie Smulders is the front-runner to play Maria Hill was the news that Tom Hiddleston will be back as Loki in the superhero epic...

In the Deadline article that revealed Cobie Smulders as Marvel Studios and Joss Whedon's top choice to play Maria Hill, was a list of the movies cast, along with this very interesting tidbit of information. We already know that Clark Gregg will play a role in the superhero team-up, but this makes it sound as if Tom Hiddleston has also signed up to return as Loki as many expected!

Robert Downey Jr brings his Iron Man character, Jeremy Renner is Hawkeye, Scarlett Johansson is Black Widow, Chris Hemsworth is Thor, Mark Ruffalo is Bruce Banner/The Hulk, and Chris Evans is Captain America. Tom Hiddleston is Loki and Clark Gregg reprises the role of SHIELD agent Phil Coulson that he played in the last Iron Man.

Well, looks as if we can expect to see The Avengers take on Loki and the Hulk after all! This has been pretty obvious for a while now, with hints from various sources (including key cast members) but Deadline's confirmation pretty much set it in stone. Be sure to share your thoughts in the usual place!

Thor is set to be released on May 6, later this year, whileThe Avengers will assemble in cinemas on May 4, 2012!

That sounds like a reference to the Thor movie rather than the Avengers. Notice how it doesn't emphasize Tom reprising any role.

This is definitely a Frick.

first off i approve of this....but that neither confirms or denies that Loki will be in the avengers sense it only says "Tom Hiddleston as Loki"

nice catch! i tend to just gloss over the bookends of articles lol

perhaps The Avengers will be some kind of amalgam of Avengers #1 + Utimates Vol 1 and 2: ie Avengers vs Hulk, then vs Loki, Hydra and the 9 Realms. If so, that's just too epic for words.

I doubt this is confirmation. The source is most likely just going on the fact that Loki's involvement is close to a certainty, but I wouldn't count on this being the final word.

Still, I would be shocked if Loki is not involved. And although Loki will be A villain, he will not be THE villain. Loki's is Thor's archnemesis, and the thunder god doesn't need his buddies to do something he can has already done by himself. Loki will be moving in an out, manipulating pretty much everyone. But don't expect him to be the true villain of the movie.

@Gmoney - very jealous, I tried to purchase 4 day passes the first 2 times they tried to sell them. Then, a few weeks later, it was decided that we are moving back to Minneapolis! Who moves from San Diego to Minnesota?!? I'm probably the one idiot. Needless to say, no Comic-Com for me this year. I would recommend that all of you fellow nerds make it out to CC someday. It is pretty damn awesome, the people watching alone is worth the price of admission. Plus, it's in America's finest city, Whale's Vagina!

I love you. @RockNRollCC

The inclusion of Loki doesn't confirm the Hulk/Loki villain storyline at all. Loki could just cameo in a scene revolving around Thor. Maybe just a couple scenes in Asgard or something.

@kpk "I want The Masters of Evil! Taking over the United States like they did in The Ultimates 2!" that was the liberators, who have nothing on the Masters of Evil.

Loki should be in the movie in some sort of capacity after all he was the one that made the Avengers, he doesn't have to be the main reason for them forming in the movie but him being there would be nice nod to the comics

I'm sensing Major hypocrisy in here.

Most of you would bitch and moan if the movie didn't get the origin story right, but yet we have some signs that the origin of the Avengers is going to be the movie and people are upset!?!?!

It should be, IMO, the first comic. Word for word for all I care just make it happen.

Oh yeah, I got tix yesterday, attending my first comic con this year !!!!!!
