Emma Stone Shares Her Thoughts On The Future Death Of Gwen Stacy

We already know that Marc Webb is a big fan of the Gwen Stacy saga, but how does Emma Stone feel about being killed off in a sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man? Turns out that she's just as keen to see it translated to the big screen as the rest of us!

The death of Gwen Stacy is perhaps the most iconic and memorable death in comic book history, and one of the few which hasn't seen the character brought back a few decades later (unlike Bucky and Jason Todd). Talking to IGN Movies, Emma Stome was asked how she would feel about Gwen being allowed to live in this planned series of films and revealed that she's not a fan of that idea at all.

"I hope not. I think that's a hugely important part of her story and of this incarnation of Spider-Man. I think that was very important to everybody. I think there's a certain expectation and then there's a certain awareness of mortality that Gwen has already, so I think that it was important to...just because her father was in the face of death everyday and so is Peter, so I think death always surrounds her. I think it's a really important element to her character. I mean, she, as fans know, is kind of most famous for how she departs. So that's a weird thing to play, knowing about such an iconic part of her existence."

STARRING:

Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man
Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy
Rhys Ifans as Curt Connors/The Lizard
Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben
Sally Fields as Aunt May
Denis Leary as George Stacy

I didn't know that Gwen Stacy was going to live in this movie, so thanks for the SPOILER in the title. This site, particularly articles by Josh Wilding, are terrible about giving away spoilers. I still remember the whole "Shane from Walking Dead as a Zombie" thing.

You're right there orpheus, but I don't think anyone really thought they would kill her in the first movie. And doing it in the second would mean having the Goblin or altering the story radically... maybe it'll be a way to introduce Mary Jane.

Was just thinking the same thing. This really is a spoiler. I was thinking she may die in this movie.

Emma Stone is so awesome, I can't think of her dying, let alone anyone replacing her.

so is this a spoiler that she doesnt die in the TASM?
AutobotCommander84
AutobotCommander84 - 6/20/2012, 4:44 AM
Especially considering that if she dies in the way she did originally, the general audience won't even care if Peter mourns her, because they'll be too busy hating him for killing her.
MisterFixit
MisterFixit - 6/20/2012, 4:48 AM
how she died in the ultimate universe?
AutobotCommander84
AutobotCommander84 - 6/20/2012, 5:00 AM
@DCempire That's not what comic book fans were saying in the sixties when Gwen was still Peter's girlfriend. I don't see a problem with not killing Gwen for the entirety of this series. Emma Stone is too great of an actress to be replaced with someone who probably won't live up to her.

@MisterFixit
SPOILER!SPOILER!SPOILER!

I think she was killed by Carnage...but Carnage in the Ultimate Universe it was this weird "symbiote" with Peter's DNA created by Curt Connors...I think.

@laughterman26 i loved the clone saga as a child, but the jackal is too much lame :-D.
MisterFixit
MisterFixit - 6/20/2012, 5:32 AM
@tea I think the same way. In addition, the authors tend to accelerate arcs that had lasted
several years in the comics, and I do not always like. For example i had hoped that there wouldn't be
disclosure of the secret identity so
soon. In this sense, Raimi did it
properly in the first movie.
ajones325
ajones325 - 6/20/2012, 5:36 AM
I think Emma Stone would have been better off as Mary Jane.
6of13
6of13 - 6/20/2012, 5:41 AM
@Tea You are right. Maybe what I should have said was that stopping really fast is what killed her.

If she dies in sequel, I wonder who will kill her. Osborn himself is not in TASM although I suppose Connors could be responsible for creating Venom. Since the Lizard is a mutated Conners, then it seems unlikely to go for ultimate goblin.

Actually it was the place Gwen Died that made the whole death of Gwen famous and that was I believe the Brooklyn Bridge. First real life monument that was related to and named in a comic book that also involved a death.
MisterFixit
MisterFixit - 6/20/2012, 5:46 AM
@ajones if we want comics accuracy Gwen has to be very very cute and MJ an authentic sex bomb :-D
JatevinM

I thought it was common knowledge that Gwen wouldn't die in this movie especially since The Goblin isn't in it.
MisterFixit
MisterFixit - 6/20/2012, 6:01 AM
@double This could work 40 years ago, but now it would be unrealistic. From the three previous films we've all seen how elastic his web is. Now a "snap" wouldn't be credible

IT'S A MONUMENTAL AN ICONIC LANDMARK IN ALL OF COMIC HISTORY, IF SOMEONE CHANGED THAT THERE WOULD BE A NEVER ENDING STORM OF HATE ON YOU FOR ALL THE REST OF YOUR DAYS AND ALOT OF" OH THAT'S THE GUY WHO SCREWED UP THE SPIDERMAN HISTORY ON FILM."
ajones325

@DoubleD how about Nikki Cox of she could act.

@DoubleD Please stop repeating yourself, it's getting annoying.
MisterFixit
MisterFixit - 6/20/2012, 6:35 AM
for me would work a Peter torn between two girls, but no drama,
no tragedy, without calling them
constantly in danger. But unfortunately I see that Webb follows the same stereotype of the previous films, with Gwen captured and saved at the end.
