BRIDESMAIDS Director Paul Feig Reveals Details About His Recent WONDER WOMAN Pitch

Bridesmaids and The Heat director Paul Feig has revealed that he recently pitched a Wonder Woman movie to Warner Bros., but based on the description of what he had in mind for the character, it's probably for the best that it never happened! Read on for details.

Has the success of Man of Steel led to Warner Bros. reaching out to filmmakers to hear their take on a Wonder Woman adatation? That we don't know, but one man who recently spoke to the studio about bringing the character to life in a movie is Paul Feig. While he may be responsible for some popular female driven comedies, I think you'll agree that this would have been far from the perfect direction to take the Amazonian Princess in for her first big screen outing.

The idea for Feig’s film would’ve involved a Wonder Woman who “keeps hitting the glass ceiling” of the superhero world. Conceived as a lighter action-comedy, this Princess Diana of Themyscira has to contend with male heroes like Batman and Superman who are perhaps not as forward-thinking regarding their female counterpart as they should be. (I think the word “jerks” might’ve come up.) Feig compared this Wonder Woman to the suffragist Cicely Hamilton (who wrote the 1908 "feminist" play Diana of Dobson's).

I asked Feig if the tone he had in mind would’ve been more in line with, say, the Iron Man films, and he said that was the basic idea. But not surprisingly, the studio did not go for the pitch. And Feig told me that in retrospect he can see why the concept didn’t fly, as the fans can be quite protective of their characters and any changes that are made to them.

If they're that terrified of committing to a female lead, just team her up with another hero. How freakin' difficult is that?

While Feig is a hack I agree, I find it laughable that people here are thinking following the source material to a tee is supposed to bring in fantastic filmmakers to a project.

Great filmmakers have vision. They want to put their personal stamp on something. You will NEVER EVER see a comic book film completely like a comic book because it's just boring for filmmakers. Perhaps Avengers comes close, but I'd like to think Whedon is a comic book fan before filmmaker.

Honest to god, what's the fun in a filmmaker taking on a project that's straight off the page?

"...this Princess Diana of Themyscira has to contend with male heroes like Batman and Superman who are perhaps not as forward-thinking regarding their female counterpart as they should be."

Batman is a master strategist and Superman's purpose is to lead humanity towards a better tomorrow. How is that not forward-thinking?

THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN A PERFECT IDEA FOR A WONDER WOMAN FILM. Come on DC this sounds better than all of Nolan's Batman films and Man of Steel combined. This would have been a film in the genre of heroes that might have had a chance of an Academy Award Best Picture nomination. It sounds so genius and brilliant at the same time. A light-action comedy come on people this is the perfect tone for Wonder Woman. I really think Warner Bros should keep this idea for a future adaptation seeing how brilliant it is.

Good job WB. It seems like directors want to make superheroes super-campy again, and we damn sure do not need to go down another Batman & Robin, Green Lantern path.

Mix visuals of 300, feel and epic nature of Gladiator, and impressiveness of Troy(along with the same budget).

Thank God this didn't happen. Bridesmaids was terrible (to me anyways) and I want to see a WW film more in the vein of 300, TROY or Centurion.

They need keep with the serious tone established in Man of Steel and have it be the visual style of 300 mixed with Gladiator.

An interesting concept, different than your average super hero action movie, but I'm sure DC doesn't want to make Batman and Superman into jerks
