According to Comics Alliance these are the only details about the series that were announced at the New York Comic Con earlier today:
"Details are still scarce on exactly what "Astonishing Captain America" will be about, but Diggle's plot involves a bit of unfinished business from Captain America's past coming back to haunt him. Something and someone from World War II has put the 21st century in jeopardy, and Cap has to take down this old foe and avoid a deadly new weapon at the same time."
As you'll more than likely know, Marvel's other "Astonishing" comic books have been set in the regular 616 universe but out of current continuity. (meaning they're not tied to any of the events going on at that time) The interesting thing about this cover though is that it's by the same artist, Adi Granov, who helped design the suit for
Iron Man back in 2008 and the striking resemblence it bears to the costume we saw in the previously released concept art as well as on that slightly chubby stunt man a while back.
What do you think? Could this comic book be somehow tied into the movie or have they just redesigned Steve's costume to convince new readers to pick the book up? Personally, I think this looks like a brilliant update of the WWII suit and could possibly even be what we'll see Captain America wearing in
The Avengers in 2012! Of course, it's worth remembering that we've also recently seen another version of the iconic costume in the screenshots that were released for the video game tie-in,
Captain America: Super Soldier.
Which of them will make it into the movie? And which do you like most from the various versions we've so far seen? Be sure to share your thoughts in the usual place!
