Is This The Suit We'll See In Captain America: The First Avenger?

Marvel have just announced a new comic book series that will be released next summer featuring a costume which is suspiciously similar to that of the ones we've seen to do with the movie...

According to Comics Alliance these are the only details about the series that were announced at the New York Comic Con earlier today:

"Details are still scarce on exactly what "Astonishing Captain America" will be about, but Diggle's plot involves a bit of unfinished business from Captain America's past coming back to haunt him. Something and someone from World War II has put the 21st century in jeopardy, and Cap has to take down this old foe and avoid a deadly new weapon at the same time."

As you'll more than likely know, Marvel's other "Astonishing" comic books have been set in the regular 616 universe but out of current continuity. (meaning they're not tied to any of the events going on at that time) The interesting thing about this cover though is that it's by the same artist, Adi Granov, who helped design the suit for Iron Man back in 2008 and the striking resemblence it bears to the costume we saw in the previously released concept art as well as on that slightly chubby stunt man a while back.

What do you think? Could this comic book be somehow tied into the movie or have they just redesigned Steve's costume to convince new readers to pick the book up? Personally, I think this looks like a brilliant update of the WWII suit and could possibly even be what we'll see Captain America wearing in The Avengers in 2012! Of course, it's worth remembering that we've also recently seen another version of the iconic costume in the screenshots that were released for the video game tie-in, Captain America: Super Soldier.

Which of them will make it into the movie? And which do you like most from the various versions we've so far seen? Be sure to share your thoughts in the usual place!

Thanks guys! :) I know it's purely speculation but I figured it still might be worth posting...after all, Marvel changed Cap's costume in "Reborn" for what appeared to be no reason and a few months later we see pictures of a stuntman in a similar looking outfit with a near identical mask and those painted on wings! IMO, the above picture would be an ideal costume for him especially in The Avengers but just as much in Captain America. It's a perfect blend of Classic, Ultimate and the previous movie designs we've seen. :)

That would totally be bad ass for tfa. I agree with kes tho. The captain America I grew up with never had guns, maybe a pistol but I never seen him pull it. P.s. burrrr! !

The suit is awesome on that cover. I could see this as a costume for the movie.

Great find Josh!

The cover artwork is awesome, sounds like a great comic! It does bother me though, that Cap has a gun.

As much as I would like to see this costume in the movie, the one from the Stunt Double and the Concept Art will most likely be his main outfit in the First Avenger. I could see Nick Fury giving this costume to him at the end of the movie or the beginning of the Avengers saying, "The progress of technology has created lightweight, damage resistant fabric, so you can lose the football pads".

I like that suit, but it won't be the one for the film. Look at the boots, there totally different.

Also, original Cap used guns frequently, I believe. 60's and 70's Marvel Cap did not use guns.

Why do people always complain about seeing him with guns?
He isn't Batman, He is a solider in the US Army.
Do you really think the Army would send a solider as valuable as he is, into the field, during a war, with just a shield?

@patriautism thank you! And Cap carried a freaking thompson machine gun in the older comics. My question is are those russian soldiers or chinese? red star? that aint USA.

If you guys and gals remember the mini-series where we thought that Whiplash was designed like the one in the movie and we were let down: you'll see that this is probably just an excellent costume for the comics and not the movie.

I'd love for this to be the final suit, though I doubt it will be. If they at least make this ONE of the suit's evolutions in the film, I'll be happy.

Only complaint, he should look like tht in MODERN day, in WWII he should have the wear of the other soldiers of D Day that day just augmented with patriotic colors and a triangular shield

damn that makes me really excited about this movie. Cap is the all time most underrated superhero ever. This flick will either blow us all away or will just be complete crap. I don't sense a middle ground. Hope it blows my mind.

Maybe this is meant to 'ease us into' the movie costume? Either way, I dig this costume. And I am a big proponent of the "real" costume, but I still think this one is a great blend of traditional and realistic.

The gunn approves !!
No pads , and a Gun/rifle is fine ( he's a soldier for christs sake)
Lets hope this will be somewhat the vision for the future of his suit. :)
Still think he should have real wings on his head tho .
